A storied and historically significant vineyard like the Lowrey farm deserves a serious winemaking and viticultural team. Our team, led by industry veteran Peter Gamble, who was engaged at the onset, has assembled a supporting cast with tremendous international credentials, ideally suited to understand and nurture the farms unique history and terroir.

Ravine’s Winery Consultant, Peter Gamble, has been active in the Canadian wine industry since 1981. Most recently, his company, Peter Gamble Consulting, has specialized in consulting to and managing premium estate winery start-ups, including most recently Stratus in Niagara, but with clients and activities as far afield as Nova Scotia, British Columbia and Argentina. His previous position, until June 2000, was as the Executive Director of VQA Canada, growing sales of Ontario VQA wines from $8 million to over $60 million annually. An internationally recognized wine taster, he has travelled extensively in the world’s most famous wine regions, judging at international wine competitions. In 1989, he co-founded Cuvee, Ontario’s most prestigious fine wine weekend, held in Niagara. In 2000 he was honoured with the inaugural presentation of the Tony Aspler Award for Contributions to the Ontario Wine Industry, presented by His Excellency John Ralston Saul of the Office of the Governor General of Canada.

Born in Kelowna, British Columbia on Sperling Vineyards, Shauna has been around winemaking since the beginning. After graduating from the Winery and Viticulture Technician program at Niagara Collage, Shauna did her first harvest experience at Domain Laroche in Chablis, France where she developed a passion for chardonnay. The experience at Domain Laroche solidified her interest for wine making which she carried around globe, interning at esteemed producers such as Ponzi Vineyards, Brokenwood, Mount Difficulty and Le Clos Jordanne.
Shauna visited the Vineyard at Ravine for the first time in July 2008. She was instantly taken by the commitment to organic and biodynamic farming practices, the rolling hill coming off the Niagara Escarpment and the rich history in the soil that contained the vines. The farming philosophies, the vines and the site itself in Shauna’s eyes were tailor made to produce world class wines.

Vineyard Manager David Beyers is South African schooled as a Viticulturist, with his last tenure on a 2000 hectare table grape farm back home. An excellent winemaker in his own right, David was largely responsible for much of Ravine’s first Vintage in 2006 and brings additional international credibility to the vineyard and production operations. David has been the driving force in converting Ravine’s Vineyard to a 100% certified organic farm, and has been taking us down the biodynamic farming path as well. Official biodynamic certification is expected in 2012.
